Here are some links to sites we like or that you may find useful. If you run an ezine get in touch with us: merchandise@cityscaperecords.co.uk Other Merchandise stuff:
Fanzines and e-zines: www.exclusive2.freeserve.co.uk/ http://www.manamana.hu/kritika/kritika.html
Radio Stations: www.sbn.co.uk - Student Broadcast Network www.pu1se.com - Doing good things for unsigned and independent bands http://www.isonliveradio.com - Australian station with an eclectic mix and an interesting online database accessible to other radio stations who are signed up.
Labels: www.irislight.co.uk - ambience, beats and electronica run by the nicest man the size of Somerset I've ever met - and I don't have to say that! http://www.genepoolrecords.com/ - some great new music is getting to the world thanks to Pete who runs this ever expanding label and distributor.
Creative Friends: http://www.laurahird.com/showcase/andrewodonnell.html - new prose and poetry by Andrew O'Donnell, philosophical traveler and former bandmate of Paul Swannell's (Mazeppa) and mine in Lucky's Tirade and various other incarnations over the years. He's the best musician I know to give it all up for poetry so take a look. I love his piece "Hotel" - it's definitely worth a few minutes of your time. Also check out the rest of the Laura Hird site for other great new writers. www.gillcook.co.uk - more info on the very tallented jazz vocalist Gill Cook whose new album Sometime Ago is available through us. http://www.otto-music.co.uk/ - new project from former Mazeppa frontman Otto Ohlsson featuring some great new tunes free to download from the site. http://www.boltonmusic.co.uk - a new collective doing good things for Bolton's live scene and the bands associated with it - have a look and see what's on or join in the forums and find out about all the bands that come from this fair town. http://www.inspireddrums.com/ - ex-Mazeppa drummer Phil Holmes is making a fine reputation as a session drummer, get in touch with him here. www.kate-wilde.co.uk - fine new design talent. Take a look at Kate's stuff here. http://www.theloungs.co.uk/ - some great new music coming from these fine St. Helens lads. Cool website with link to lots of downloads - ARMAGEDDON OUTTA HERE's my fave.
Bands we Like: http://www.belleandsebastian.co.uk/ - A wonderful band with some gorgeous pop albums to soundtrack your life! Me and Con listened to very little else when we drove up to Skye to master Lo-tech solutions. http://www.deathcabforcutie.com/ - Their last two albums have been wonderful - Transatlaticism and The Photo Album. Also check out the lead singer's sideproject band The Postal Service who's album Give up was one of my faves of last year. http://www.subpop.com/bands/postalservice/ - and here is the link to subpop's page on the wonderful Postal Service http://www.americanmusicclub.com/ - new album out by the boys and Rog tells me that it's up there and back to form http://www.markeitzel.com/ - American Music Club frontman, troubled genius and Roger's favourite. If you don't own Songs of Love Live you really should. http://www.fourtet.net/ - buy Rounds - an absolutely gorgeous album of "folktronica" that's been pretty much stuck to the Cityscape office CD player for months. http://www.milesdavis.com/home.htm - My favourite jazz musician and a source of much of my record collection. This man was recording and innovating from the 1940s to the 1990s and created several styles along the way. The list of essential albums this man made could take the rest of this page but if you start with Kind of Blue, In A Silent Way and Porgy and Bess you won't be off to a bad start. http://www.4ad.com/artists/catalogue/pixies/index.htm - I can't see too many people coming to an indie site without knowing them but if you haven't been introduced to their surf punk sci-fi world just get Doolittle, don't argue, just do it! http://www.kraftwerk.com/ contains very little in the way of information, but still a classy site from the Teutonic lords of the dance. http://www.johncoltrane.com/ - sublimely talented saxophonist whose spiritual explorations are a must for anybody living with the bizarre idea that jazz is quiet dinner music. Sure he made some albums like that but get A Love Supreme and don't look back. http://www.nickdrake.co.uk/ - some of the most beautiful songs ever, everybody needs the three main Nick Drake albums. www.goldfrapp.co.uk everyone needs to look at this site - a twisted work of staggering beauty. http://www.islandrecords.com/thekillers/site/home.las site for my current faves - the killers. http://www.theearlies.com/ - the greatest half-Texan, half-Mancunian band ever formed.
